This HONORS class was instrumental is launching my interest in biology and computer science and mathematics. At this point, I had begun taking computer science classes and biology classes, but I had always thought of them as separate fields and I was just taking computer sciences classes as kind of a hobby.
However, Dr. Jacob Cooper opened up a whole other side of biology that I had not even considered prior. It was in this class that I saw how math could be applied to biological studies and I got really excited! During and after this class, I got involved in some bioinformatics research in a lab I am still in as of my senior year. I went on to take BIOL 359 or Foundations in Quantitative Biology which brought together data science and biology even more! This class was especially helpful for bridging my data science minor with my biology major, which I had only previously done with my research outside of class. |
These were called our "Game Theory Fish" In the class, we got to do final project and for one of the students, they used these fish as a prop.
We participated in a sort of simulation of the Prisoner's dilemma using these fish - whether we chose to give or keep our fish, without knowing what someone else was going to do. |
