Presenting at the Undergraduate Research Symposium Virtually
The University of Washington went into lockdown at the end of Winter Quarter 2020. From this point on, I completed all my undergraduate classes, studies, and research from home. During this time, I had to adapt my learning style and manage my time better even more to ensure productivity.
Near the end of Spring Quarter 2020, the Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) rolled around, and I was slated to present my research. At first, I was nervous of how I would present my research over zoom and in a three-minute lightning talk. However, when the time to present and learn at the symposium came around, the UW community showed such support, resilience, and eagerness to learn, even in the midsts of a pandemic. I am proud to have contributed to the very first virtual URS, and to have presented again a year later.
Below is my poster that accompanied my lightning talk. I worked hard to ensure my science communication was clear and accessible to the general audience that attended the symposium. Continuing my ongoing goal to practice effective science communication, I was mindful of data visualization and schematic choices: making them detailed but not too complicated, choosing color-blind friendly palettes, and organizing my poster in a way that guides the viewer.
